Cardale Jones is getting more and more play as an Ohio State caliber quarterback prospect. He leaves no doubt he would love to direct the Buckeyes’ offense.
The Buckeyes offered a scholarship to Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller when Miller was a freshman. Miller remains Jim Tressel’s target as potentially the heir apparent to current Buckeye quarterback Terrelle Pryor.
However, a quarterback on the rise and someone Buckeye fans should be aware of is junior Cardale Jones from Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville.
The 6-foot-5 and 215-pound Jones is similar in size to Pryor when Pryor was in high school, and like Pryor, has outstanding speed. Jones runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.
Jones operates out of the ‘spread’ offense quite a bit, but says he has no problem working from under center. In addition to having excellent speed, Jones also has a strong arm. He has helped the Tarblooders win eight of nine games by passing and rushing for a combined 1,000 yards.
In another similarity with Pryor, Jones has gone to wide receiver a bit this season like Pryor did against the Texas Longhorns last season. In the red zone when another Buckeye target Christian Bryant has played quarterback, Jones has moved out to wide receiver at times.
Jones has a scholarship offer on the table from Bowling Green.
“And I get a lot of letters from Kansas State, Iowa, Indiana, and I have a lot of talk around O-State,” Jones said. “OhioState, that’s my dream school.”
When asked about the Buckeyes, Jones said, “I would love to be at OhioState running the type of offense they run. I’ve been to OhioState for (football) camp. I was there the summer of my freshman year. I talked to the coaches a little bit.”
Jones said he hopes to attend the Ohio State-Iowa game on Nov. 14.
Jones is also a starter on the Glenville basketball team and runs track for the Tarblooders.
Kurelic’s Comment: Between Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones, it is easy to imagine one of the two heading to OhioState, and not out of the question both could.
