Over a week ago Bucknuts.com had the news that defensive tackle Chase Hounshell would be visiting Ohio State. Hounshell made that visit on Tuesday and had plenty to say after returning home.

Defensive tackle Chase Hounshell (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and his parents arrived at Ohio State on Tuesday morning and afterwards Hounshell had plenty to say about his visit.

“We started with a tour,” Hounshell said.  “We saw all the facilities.  We went to the weight room and the indoor facility.  We went to the stadium and walked on the field.  There are two locker rooms and we went in both.  I loved the facilities.”

The Ohio State coaches made sure it wasn’t all about football for Hounshell.

“We went to the academic center,” Hounshell said.  “And we talked to an academic advisor.  Basically we did everything you could do.”

Of course Hounshell talked football with his potential coaches, in particular defensive line coach Jim Heacock.

“Coach Heacock said they are real interested,” Hounshell said.  “He said they want to see a little more of my film.  So (on Wednesday) I’m going to make a defense only highlight tape.  They are going to look it over and let me know (about a scholarship offer) soon.”

The 6-foot-5 and 250-pound Hounshell started at both defensive tackle and offensive tackle during his junior season.  He made 65 tackles including six sacks and 18 tackles for loss as Lake Catholic made it to the state championship game and finished with a 13-2 record.

Hounshell has scholarship offers from Vanderbilt, Central Florida, Toledo, Akron, Bowling Green, Ohio University and Ball State.  But the offer he wants is one from the Buckeyes.

“I love Ohio State,” Hounshell said.  “Hopefully I’ll get an offer.  If I don’t get one soon I’ll definitely go to their one-day senior camp (in June).  I think they’ll offer there.”

Hounshell plans to attend Notre Dame’s junior day March 20, a Pitt spring practice March 25, an LSU junior day March 27 and a Michigan State spring practice, possibly April 22.  He might also go to a junior day at Boston College and possibly a spring practice at West Virginia.
