Youngstown Boardman's J.T. Moore, who verbaled long ago, making official visit to OSU this weekend.
He was the first player to verbal for Ohio State’s 2010 football recruiting class, but he might be the last one to take an official visit.
Youngstown Boardman defensive end J.T. Moore played in a high school basketball game last night and was scheduled to begin an official visit at OSU today.
“I am just looking forward to being with the guys,” Moore said. “I want to spend some time with the coaches and check it all out. I want to check out the campus and get used to being down there at college.”
Moore (6-3, 230) became OSU’s very first verbal for 2010 when he committed shortly after receiving a written scholarship offer back on Sept. 12, 2008. But because of football and basketball commitments, he had not had a chance to make an official visit.
He remains sold, though, on Ohio State.
“In terms of academics, it is one of the best schools in the nation,” Moore said. “Plus, the football program is one of the top five in the nation as well.”
There is one more bonus as well: Moore will attend Ohio State with his sister, Darryce Moore, who has already signed a letter-of-intent. They are in the same grade, although they were born nine months apart.
“It will be great to have her down there as well,” Moore said.
As a senior, Moore had 110 tackles, nine sacks, 16 tackles-for-loss and recovered two fumbles.
“They say I would fit into the Leo defensive end spot,” Moore said. “It is a position for a smaller defensive end or a bigger linebacker. I could play both positions. We’ll see how it works out as time goes on.”
Moore plans to enroll at OSU in June for summer quarter. He figures to play in the Ohio All-Star Classic April 23 at Ohio Stadium and in the Big 33 Football Classic in June.
He is qualified academically with a 2.8 GPA and a 20 on the ACT.
