The Columbus Dispatch reported Sunday morning that Ohio State defensive end Rob Rose would not be with the team when preseason camp opens on Monday, Aug. 10, due to academic deficiencies.
Bucknuts.com sources have confirmed that report. However, apparently Rose is not the only OSU player with thorns on his academic resume.
According to our sources, wide receiver Ray Small is also not with the team for the time being and his status is very much up in the air for the 2009 season. There is a chance that Rose and Small could return to the team by the USC game on Sept. 12, but that seems like a long-shot at best at this point.
Rose and Small are not even permitted to train with the team at the current time and their scholarship aid has been pulled.
Rose and Small would be seniors in 2009 and they are graduates of Cleveland Glenville High School.
Small led the Big Ten in punt return average last year (15.2 yards per return) and also had 18 receptions for 149 yards (8.3 yards per catch).
Rose has contributed very little during his OSU career. In 2008, he had 10 tackles (four solo), three for loss and one sack.
