The class of 2011 wide receiver class in Ohio is already very strong, and it is getting stronger. Early offers have already come in for Trotwood Madison's AJ Jordan, Northmont's Josh McClain, Springfield's Byron Thompson, and Dayton Dunbar's Roger Williamson.
A name that should start getting more attention is Devin Smith from Massillon Washington. Devin Smith played his freshman and sophomore football at Akron Ellet High School and transferred to Massillon this season.
Only two games into 2009, there is not much film to share on Smith, but at 6-2 and 175 pounds he fits the mold to play WR in college. Devin Smith has a frame that will remind some of Chris Fields or DeVier Posey and is working to develop some of the same football skills. Smith flashed some big time ability as I was scouting him this season and should be a prospect to watch when it comes to Ohio State recruiting.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that Massillon Washington has a great 2010 QB named Robert Partridge who might be throwing to the best 1-2-3 WR combo in the state. Newcomer Devin Smith joins senior Bo Grunder (5-11, 165) and junior Justin Olack (6-4 195). Bo Grunder is cut from the mold of a Wes Welker and Justin Olack provides the big framed red zone target that QBs covet. Both Grunder and Olack are prospects in their own right and worth keeping an eye one this season.
Here is a clip of Devin Smith getting deep on Canton Glenoak this season.
