Columbus Eastmoor Academy junior Ron Tanner has an OSU offer. Who are his early favorites?
On Saturday night, we had a chance to talk with Columbus Eastmoor Academy junior defensive back Ron Tanner at the Columbus Touchdown Club’s annual banquet.
Tanner (6-1, 190, 4.5) was on hand to receive a Buckeye Blue Chip Award. He is considered one of Ohio’s top 10 prospects for 2011.
Tanner now has offers from Ohio State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Minnesota, N.C. State and Northwestern.
Tanner has been a varsity starter for Eastmoor during both his sophomore and junior seasons.
During his junior season the left-hander started at both safety and quarterback. He had a great season making close to 90 tackles with seven interceptions. Tanner threw for over 1,200 yards as the Warriors finished 8-3.
Tanner is also a fine student. He has a 3.75 GPA and scored a 21 on the ACT.
He is also involved in a number of off-the-field activities, including volunteer work with youth sports teams, the Principal’s Gentleman Club at Eastmoor Academy, the Open Hands Ministry and the Eastmoor scholar-athlete leadership program. He is also a recipient of the Prof. Harold McClure Scholar-Athlete Award
In the 2010 class, Ohio State signed Columbus Marion-Franklin’s Verlon Reed. That ended a six-year drought where OSU had not signed a City League player. The wait could be much shorter if Tanner selects the Buckeyes in 2011.
Here is our interview with Tanner, conducted by Bucknuts.com’s Bill Kurelic. He talks about how he may fit in at the college level, the schools that have offered, when he plans to make a college decision, which schools he is favoring, his recent OSU junior day visit and much more.
