The Buckeyes have offered a scholarship to wide receiver Evan Spencer (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills), the son of former Buckeye great and current Chicago Bears running backs coach Tim Spencer.

However, Evan Spencer is not the only prospect at Vernon Hills the Bucks are interested in.

The Ohio State staff is also showing interest in ESPNU 150 Watch List wide receiver DaVaris Daniels (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills).

“I’m hearing from Ohio State,” Daniels said.  “I plan to go to an Ohio State spring practice.”

The 6-foot-2 and 175-pound Daniels had a very good sophomore season.  He caught 30 plus passes and had nine touchdowns.  Daniels also played defensive back and intercepted four passes.

Daniels played mostly quarterback during his junior season.  Still, while lined up as a wide receiver at times this past season, Daniels caught eight touchdown passes as he led Vernon Hills to a 10-2 record.

Daniels has over a half dozen scholarship offers.  His most recent offers have come from Michigan, Notre Dame and Purdue.  Previously Daniels had offers from Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Miami.

“Purdue offered in writing,” Daniels said.  “Michigan, I talked to Rich Rodriguez.  And I talked to (Notre Dame) Coach (Brian) Kelly.”

Daniels said he is interested in the eight schools that have offered as well as Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma and UCLA.

When asked about Ohio State, Daniels said, “They always produce great receivers.  They always win.  I could see myself playing at a place like that.”

As one would expect, Daniels has talked with Tim and Evan Spencer about Ohio State.

“(Tim Spencer) loved it when he was there,” Daniels said.  “Evan and I are going to visit there in the spring.”

The Buckeyes have some time to continue evaluating Daniels.  He does not plan to make a commitment to anyone anytime soon.

“I’m not eliminating anybody,” Daniels said.  “I don’t have any favorites.  I’m trying to keep them all on the same level.”

Daniels’ father, Phillip Daniels, has played in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, and most recently the Washington Redskins.

Kurelic’s Comment: I saw Daniels work out at the Under Armour Combine in Orlando on Jan. 1.  With the Bucks interested in both he and Evan Spencer, and the two planning to visit OSU the spring, Bucknuts will be providing plenty of coverage of both.
