Chris Carter Jr., visited Ohio State today and committed to the Buckeyes before leaving Columbus.
For those OSU fans wondering when commitment No. 3 would come for the Buckeyes, it came today from Cleveland (Ohio) John F. Kennedy lineman Chris Carter Jr.
Carter visited OhioState this afternoon and before leaving Columbus had become a Buckeye.
“I committed to Jim Tressel,” Carter said. “I made an unofficial visit and committed."
Carter went on to talk about his visit leading up to his commitment to the Bucks.
"We did a tour," Carter said. "We saw the academic center. We saw the 'Shoe' and the practice facilities, stuff like that. It was a nice little general tour."
The 6-foot-4 and 340-pound Carter was a varsity starter at offensive tackle his sophomore season. He started the first half of his junior season at tackle before moving to guard for the final half of the season.
"I'll play either guard or tackle at Ohio State," Carter said.
Carter, who is not related to former Buckeye great Cris Carter, was recruited by OhioState assistant Taver Johnson.
“I’ve been talking to him for about four or five months,” Carter said.
When asked why he picked the Buckeyes, Carter said, “It’s the best choice for me. The academic support is great and I like the way they treat the players. They help you get adjusted to college life and the coaches really care about you as a person."
Carter picked Ohio State over scholarship offers from North Carolina State, Miami of Ohio, Toledo and Akron.
Other schools showing interest included Michigan, Purdue, Indiana, Pitt and Syracuse.
Kurelic’s Comment: The Buckeyes signed just one offensive lineman on National Signing Day, so getting one of the best in Ohio this early is big for the Buckeyes. Carter is a huge and powerful young man with outstanding potential.
Carter was rated as the state's No. 20 prospect during the recent Bucknuts 50 countdown.
