Sept. 1 is the first day written scholarship offers can be extended to juniors. However, the Buckeyes have gotten a jump on things by landing a commitment from the No. 3 class of 2011 prospect in the state of Ohio, defensive end Kenny Hayes from Toledo Whitmer.

The 6-foot-5 and 230-pound Hayes found out he had a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes and it didn’t take long for him to commit.

Hayes gave Jim Tressel the good news today, that he would like to play for the Scarlet and Gray. He becomes the Buckeyes’ first 2011 commitment.

Hayes has excellent size for a defensive end and is still growing. He is very athletic and is an excellent pass rusher. He also had a scholarship offer from Illinois before selecting his dream school, Ohio State.

Kurelic’s Comment: Hayes is one of two great defensive end prospects in the Ohio class of 2011. Steve Miller from Canton McKinley is the other, and he is expected to soon receive a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes as well.
