Cardale Jones recently picked up a major scholarship offer. Did he receive another one on Sunday when he visited Ohio State?
The Buckeyes offered a scholarship to Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller when Miller was a freshman. OSU fans are certainly hopeful the Bucks eventually land the “Blue-Chip” signal caller.
However, after his outstanding performance in the state playoffs, many OSU recruiting fans hope the Buckeyes also offer a scholarship to Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville quarterback Cardale Jones.
The 6-foot-5 and 215-pound Jones threw for over 1,000 yards in the Tarblooders’ five playoff games. Glenville won the first four before going down to defeat to Hilliard Davidson in the Division 1 state championship game. Against Davidson Jones completed 16 of 31 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown with an interception.
For the season Jones was 122 of 197 (61.9%) for 2,180 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also had close to 500 yards rushing and nine touchdowns.
Jones was in Columbus today attending the Buckeyes’ Sunday Rose Bowl practice session.
“It was a great experience knowing I was at a facility I would like to be at my freshman year (in college),” Jones said. “I talked to all the coaches and trainers. I joked around with coach (Jim) Tressel for a second.”
And what did Jones talk about with the OSU coaches?
“We talked about their bowl game,” he said. “We talked about how good some of the Glenville guys are doing.”
One thing Jones and the OSU coaches did not talk about was a scholarship offer. Jones recently landed a scholarship offer from West Virginia and also has one from Bowling Green. He doesn’t have one from Buckeyes, but that has hasn’t fazed Jones.
“OhioState is my favorite school,” he said. “Ohio State, Florida, Texas, West Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, I like a lot of schools.”
Kurelic’s Comment: There is no doubt in my mind Jones is a Big Ten caliber recruit. I think OSU eventually gets Miller. If so, then the question would be whether they would also offer and take a commitment from Jones?
