Offensive lineman Tommy Brown is Buckeye commitment No. 8 and offensive line commitment No. 4 for Jim Tressel’s 2011 recruiting class.
A week ago Bucknuts.com had news offensive lineman Tommy Brown would be visiting OhioState for today’s Buckeye spring practice. Brown did so, was offered a scholarship by the Bucks and committed on the spot.
“I went down to practice with my mom and dad,” Brown said. “They were going to take me on a tour, but I’ve done that before so they took my parents. While they did that I watched film with coach (Jim) Bollman.
“Then I met with coach (Jim) Tressel in his office. He talked about everything in life and he let me know they wanted me. He said I have an offer so I told him I was going to commit. He was excited.”
The 6-foot-5 and 300-pound Brown was a starter at right tackle and defensive end during his sophomore season. He played the same two positions his junior season.
“(OhioState) said I’ll play somewhere along the offensive line, probably tackle,” Brown said.
It was certainly not a surprise Brown committed as soon as the offer came. OhioState has long been his favorite school.
“I’ve always wanted to go to OhioState,” Brown said. “I’ve always been an OhioState fan. I feel like I’m home there.”
And with that the Bucks have eight commitments for their 2011 recruiting class and four offensive linemen. In addition to Brown, offensive linemen Chris Carter Jr. (Cleveland, Ohio/John Kennedy), Antonio Underwood (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights), and Brian Bobek (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) have committed to Ohio State.
Kurelic’s Comment: After signing just one offensive lineman in February, Jim Tressel was not going to be caught short on big guys up front this recruiting season. Tressel can now set his sites on one more Ohio offensive lineman, Audrey Walker (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville), as well as possibly one super guy from out of state.
